Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended in red today as sentiment remained bearish due largely to European debt woes, analysts said.

Nevertheless, the FBM KLCI closed off its lows with interest seen in selective heavyweights and penny stocks.

At 5pm, the benchmark index slipped 1.65 points to 1,477.22 after moving between 1,473.71 and 1,478.75.

The Finance Index dropped 33.96 points to 13,139.44 and the Plantation Index slipped 11.54 points to 7,634.84 but the Industrial Index increased 8.51 points to 2,715.32.

The FBM Emas Index eased 3.07 points to 10,120.31 and the FBM ACE slid 68.72 points to 4,271.43 but the FBM70 Index surged 45.409 points to 11,021.39 and the FBM Top 100 Index edged up 0.12 of a point to 9,923.69.

Decliners led advancers by 466 to 341 while 258 counters were unchanged, 416 untraded and 20 others suspended.

A total of 2.984 billion shares valued at RM1.554 billion changed hands compared with 2.849 billion shares worth RM1.885 billion yesterday. -- Bernama
