Malaysia's first eco-mall opens its doors
Space u8, Malaysia's first eco-mall near Bukit Jelutong opened its doors to the public today.
Raja Mohd Azmi Raja Razali, Group Chairman of developer Mainstay Holdings Sdn Bhd, said construction began four years ago to build the RM250 million, 182,880 sq m mall which houses 250 shops.
He said used tyres were used to balance building temperature with minimum use of air-conditioner.
"We also use an open ventilation system and solar panels on top of the building.
"Besides air-conditioner, natural wind from outside can also enter the supermarket and giant fans are used to balance the temperature inside the building," he told reporters.
The mall opens from 10am to 10pm daily, and has a total parking capacity of about 1,300 cars, a seven-screen cineplex which can accomodate 1,400 people and a bowling centre run by former national kegler Shalin Zulkifli.
With a slogan "Meet You There", visitors can also try its karaoke facility and a variety of dishes at its Space Wok food court.
Raja Mohd Azmi said that as an "event mall", Space u8 would organise about 150 events next year including a weekly flea market.
"We also welcome individuals who are interested and want something different to have their wedding at the mall," he said.
