Scomi Engr in the red for Jan-Sept

Scomi Engineering Bhd reported a pre-tax loss of RM10.143 million for the first nine-months of 2011, compared with a pre-tax profit of RM17.062 million, last year.
Revenue for the period also dwindled to RM244.493 million from RM293.558 million previously.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia today, the company said for its third quarter ended Sept 30, 2011, the company registered a pre-tax loss of RM11.396 million versus a pre-tax profit of RM4.178 million, last year.
Revenue for the three-months period also fell to RM76.518 million from RM77.208 million, in the corresponding quarter, last year.
"The group has secured two monorail projects together with its consortium partners in Brazil and will continuously pursue opportunities, especially in Malaysia, Brazil and India to capitalise on the increasing demand for infrastructure development in these countries.
"The group continues to focus on project execution and stronger cost management to achieve a better performance," Scomi Engineering said. -- Bernama
