Finance Ministry expects 5.2m to register under BR1M
KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 10): The Finance Ministry expects 5.2 million people will register for the RM500 aid under the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) programme.
Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said they would comprise households with many dependents earning less than RM3,000, senior citizens and families registered under the eKasih programme.
"For the purpose of assessing the exact income of a family, only working family members are eligible to fill in the application form, not all family members," he told a press conference at SMK Aminuddin Baki in Jalan Kampung Pandan here on Saturday.
The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) would process the applications and those ineligible could be identified immediately through its records, he said.
He said the form was free and could be obtained from 862 counters nationwide including those set up at 415 selected schools. It can also be downloaded from the ministry's website.
Ahmad Husni said payments would be made in mid-January and the method would be announced later.
Registration for BR1M ends on Jan 10. Queries can be forwarded to the BR1M Hotline at 1-800-222-500. - Bernama
