Quantum: Lubricant plant can save import bill
Quantum Petroleum (M) Sdn Bhd says it can help reduce Malaysia's import bill by at least RM15 billion annually following the
launch of its pilot lubricant plant in Pulau Indah in Klang, Selangor.
Chief executive officer Dr Ralph Micheal said the patented technology used by the plant was transferred from Australia to Malaysia because of the country's good infrastructure and large transportation network of 16 million land vehicles.
The price of the company's lubricant oil, which is blended with virgin base oils, would be lower compared with existing ones in the market, he told a press conference in Klang today.
Quantum Petroleum chairman Datuk Husainay Hashim said: "Quantum Petroleum has been getting many enquiries for franchising from various countries like Yemen, Bahrain and other countries in Asia regarding this plant and its one-of-a-kind technology."
On the company's expansion plan, he said Quantum Petroleum was in talks with Felda and the Cooperative Commission for a potential tie-up.
"Other than that, we are trying to convince Proton service centres to use our lubricant oil," he said.
