Industrial Production Index (IPI) – December 2011
IPI bound back in December
Above expectation – December’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) rose 3.0% y-o-y and 3.5% m-o-m to 112.1. Such result was beyond our forecast at a range of 101.0- 105.0. The unexpected rise in exports came from higher Asian demand and electricity maintained at old tariff despite the increasing cost of operation. Both factors contributed positively to the growth for manufacturing and electricity indices.
IPI expected to increase in January – Resilient economy in Asia despite euro zone’s debt crisis has minimal impact on IPI growth. Thus, we forecast IPI to expand at a range of 111.0 to 115.0.
