Losers led gainers 315 to 237 while 304 counters were unchanged, 637 untraded and 19 others suspended. Turnover stood at 520.118 million shares worth RM479.448 million.

Meanwhile, the Finance Index rose 61.49 points to 14,143.78, the Plantation Index shed 37.641 points to 8,573.8 and the Industrial Index declined 3.79 points to 2,858.5.

HwangDBS Vickers Research in a note today said the Malaysian bourse could trade sideways from its 0.7 per cent gain yesterday.

"This is due to sentiment cooling from the positive US and Eurozone news, while investors mulled China’s move to allow greater movement in its exchange rate, higher-than-expected jobless claims in the UK in February, and concerns over the ability of the Eurozone countries to reach its budget targets for 2013," it added. -- Bernama
