Malaysian companies are invited to participate in 33 infrastructure projects worth about RM22.5 billion in the Philippines.

The Philippines Government through its National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) recently announced a number of public-private sector infrastructure projects throughout the country.

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) has indicated that of immediate interest to Malaysian companies would be the Balabac Airport development project to develop a new airport on Balabac Island in south Palawan.

It said the estimated project cost is RM82 million.

In addition to the project is the C-6 Expressway and Global Link (South Section) intended to decongest the existing C-5 and Metro Manila roads, it said in a statement.

Matrade said the four-lane 50.7Km-long C-6 expressway would serve as a traffic distributor from the North Luzon Expressway to the Metro Rail Transit Line (MRT7) Terminal.

The total estimated project cost is about RM3.9 billion, it said.

On further interest to Malaysian companies is the Los Ba'os Expressway, a four-lane 15.5KM Expressway starting at the South Luzon Expressway Extension (Calamba Exit to Sto. Tomas), connecting with a national road at Bay, Laguna.

The project cost will be announced later, it said.

Matrade, an investment and trade promotion agency under the International Trade and Industry Ministry, is advising Malaysian companies to take cognisance of the upcoming tender announcements and to plan ahead to bid for the projects.

"This would be as exporters or suppliers of materials as direct suppliers to local manufacturers as partners for local firms or as members of consortiums or consultants for investments or project developers or as specialised contractors," it added. -- BERNAMA
