ASEAN trading link to be launched in June
The ASEAN Trading Link is on schedule for launch in June this year, ASEAN Exchanges said today.
ASEAN Exchanges is a collaboration between seven ASEAN stock exchanges, namely, Bursa Malaysia, Hanoi Stock Exchange, Hochiminh Stock Exchange, Indonesia Stock Exchange, The Philippines Stock Exchange, Singapore Exchange and The Stock Exchange of Thailand.
In a statement today, it said Bursa Malaysia and Singapore Exchange will be connected first, with the Stock Exchange of Thailand to be added in August.
Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Tajuddin Atan said this was an affirmative step towards an integrated ASEAN capital market.
"Bringing down trade barriers will certainly provide more opportunities for our market players, especially multinational public listed companies, actively expanding their operations throughout ASEAN," he added.
Singapore Exchange chief executive officer Magnus Bocker said the collaborative decision of the member Exchanges, to roll out the ASEAN Trading Link, marks the first key milestone towards breaking down barriers to cross border trade in the region.
"Through the trading link, investors in ASEAN will enjoy a new ease of access to a wider investment selection, while taking advantage of the region's growth opportunities.
"The three bourses participating in the first stage of the ASEAN Trading Link represent approximately two-thirds of the US$2.1 trillion market capitalisation of the seven members of the ASEAN Exchanges," he added.
