TM launches HK centre
New data facility to meet increased demand for cloud-based services
PETALING JAYA: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has launched its first regional data centre facility in Hong Kong.
Located in a Class A office facility at the Billion Centre in the famous Kowloon Bay area, the data centre, named VADS Hong Kong Data Centre (HKDC), was expected to meet the increased demand for cloud-based services, via its information and communication technology (ICT) arm, VADS Bhd (VADS), which provides managed ICT services, TM said in a statement yesterday.
“With this latest establishment, it marks the expansion of TM's presence in data centres market and strengthens its position as a leading player in communications industry,” it said.
Zamzamzairani: Hong Kong a natural choice
TM group chief executive officer Datuk Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said in the same statement that Hong Kong was a natural choice when it came to deciding on the location of its first data centre outside Malaysia.
“This country has a strategic capability that attracts most of the multinational corporations and foreign carriers to set up and expand their business in the Asia-Pacific.
“Nobody can deny that Hong Kong is an established business hub in this region,” he said.
HKDC is an extension of the already existing 14 data centres established by TM via VADS throughout Malaysia.
Its design is based on the existing data centres for ease of maintenance, continuity and connectivity.
With a total build up space exceeding 14,000 sq ft, HKDC is built as a Green Data Centre with the coalescence of hot and cold aisle containment system together with a Tier III+ design.
TM owns or leases capacity on more than 10 submarine cable systems, which span more than 60,000 fiber-route miles around the globe, including several submarine cable routes that the company uses to carry traffic between Asia-Pacific region and North American region.
