KUALA LUMPUR: MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd's earnings rose 7% to RM66.38mil in the first quarter ended March 31, 2012 from RM62.01mil a year ago.

It said on Monday its revenue climbed 5.7% to RM531.76mil from RM503.17mil due to higher sales of sugar for exports and higher average price. Earnings per share were 9.44 sen compared with 10.76 sen.

"The profit before tax for the current quarter ended March 31, 2012 is 2% lower, that is RM88mil as compared to RM90mil for the same quarter last year due to lower gross profit margin during the quarter as a result of higher cost of sales caused mainly by increase in raw sugar price," it said.
