KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened marginally lower today on lack of demand for riskier assets following the
overnight downtrend on Wall Street, dealers said.

After 25 minutes of trading, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 1.01 points lower at 1,589.59, in line with the weaker regional trend.

The bourse opened 0.43 per cent higher at 1,591.03.

HwangDBS Vickers Research said the uncertain political future for Greece could continue to put pressure on Asian equities today.

"Wall Street already reacted negatively last night when its key stock indices dropped between 0.4 per cent and 0.6 per cent," it said.

On the home front, it said the benchmark FBM KLCI would likely test its prevailing resilience by showing a downward bias ahead with the immediate support level seen at the 1,580 points level.

The Finance Index added six points to 14,234.55, the Plantation
Index earned 0.09 of a point to 8,710.25 and the Industrial Index decreased 1.90 points to 2,820.33.

The FBM Emas Index declined 7.87 points to 10,899.56, the FBM Mid 70 Index lost 8.89 points to 11,977.90 and the FBM Ace Index perked 0.22 of a point to 4,534.85.

Losers led gainers 106 to 128 while 170 counters were unchanged with 137.325 million shares, worth RM101.882 million, exchanging hands.

Among active counters, Permaju Industries earned eight sen to 95.5 sen, Harvest Court Industries fell 3.5 sen to 67.5 sen and Perisai Petroleum Teknologi added 3.5 sen to 92.5 sen.

Heavyweights, Maybank and Sime Darby stood unchanged at RM8.75 and RM9.78, respectively, while CIMB rose seven sen to RM7.70. - Bernama
