KUALA LUMPUR (April 15): The FBM KLCI which opened in the red, rebounded across the 1,700-point level on bargain hunting following the benchmark's decline last Friday.

At 9.27am today, the KLCI rose 2.58 points or 0.2% to 1,701.11 on gains in selected blue-chip shares like BRITISH AMERICAN TOBACCO (M) [] Bhd, which was also the top gainer across the bourse, and PETRONAS GAS BHD [].

Across the exchange, some 101.11 million shares worth RM76 million changed hands. There were 131 gainers versus 105 decliners.

The top decliner was Genting PLANTATION []s Bhd while the most-active entity was NEXTNATION COMMUNICATION BHD [].

Among Asian stockmarkets, Japan' Nikkei 225 fell 0.93% while Singapore's Straits Times was down 0.12%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.65%.
