KUALA LUMPUR (April 15): The key FBM KLCI, which posted a weekly rise of 9.9-point or 0.6% to finish at 1,698.53 on Friday, ended the morning session flat on profit-taking as bulls took a breather, dealers said.
At 12.30 pm break, the benchmark index rose 0.07 point to 1698.6 – below the psychological 1700 mark, on trades of 449 million shares worth RM614 million, after hovering in the positive territory for most of the session.
Losers led gainers by 424 to 142, in a quiet market.
While the index was supported by big index-linked stocks such as Sime Darby, Hong leong Cap and IOI, it was negated by stocks that had risen sharply over the past days such as Dutch Lady, Shangri-La and some major PLANTATION [] stocks.
“It’s hard to predict that market now. It’s difficult to understand why investors appear to be bullish at times and bearish at another ahead of the general election (on May 5),” said one senior dealer.
In a morning note, Hong Leong IB said it sees market consolidation ahead of the nomination date (this Saturday) and advised investors to “buy on dips and sell into rally”.
“Given the overbought technical, last Friday’s profit taking pullback could extend into the local bourse ahead of the nomination date. Supports are seen at 1689, 1674 and 1667. Any rebound will likely to be capped at 1725 and 1742 in the medium to long term,” it said.
HwangDBS Vickers Research said: “Beyond the short-term consolidation, the key market barometer could be eyeing to challenge the resistance line of 1,720 again.”
The FBM KLCI – which reached a fresh record high of 1,716.47 on Friday – could back off from the psychological level of 1,700 ahead, it added.
In the region, Asian shares slid on Monday as weaker-than-expected U.S. and Chinese data raised concerns about the global economic outlook, prompting investors to book some gains from recent market rallies, Reuters reported.
Global equities and commodities slumped late last week on a negative reading of U.S. consumer sentiment and soft retail sales, as well as on rekindled worries in the euro zone.
China said today its economic recovery unexpectedly stumbled in the first three months of 2013, with the annual rate of growth easing to 7.7 percent from 7.9 percent in the final quarter of last year.
In morning trades, the MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fell 1.2 percent, led by a 3 percent slide in its materials sector as gold and silver plummeted.

Comments : A moment of triumph does not represent a life of success;
A moment of setback does not represent a life of failure.
This is what I have learned from my past experiences ...
