In a note Monday, Alliance IB economists Manokaran Mottain and Khairul Anwar Nor Md said all was not lost though, as the long-term trend remained intact, reflected by strong export demand from major advanced economies.
However, they said the slower rate of growth can be attributed to manufacturers’ move to draw down stocks from the preceding months.
“On a quarterly basis, manufacturing output improved from +3.6% in 2Q to +4.3% in 3Q13.
“Consequently, we maintain our earlier projection of GDP growth at +4.8% in 3Q13, stronger than +4.3% in 2Q13. For the full-year, we forecast growths of 4.5% and 5% in 2013 and 2014 respectively,” they said.
