Malaysia News & Highlights
Korean takeover of ING's M'sian insurance business?
ING is in the advanced stages of disposing of its Malaysian insurance business to a South Korean insurer as part of its Asian insurance and investment management divestment operations, according to a source familiar with the matter. This may see some of the other South-East Asian ING insurance operations being bought over by the South Korean insurer. At this juncture, the relevant parties are keen for the deal to go through. The disposal, he said, would involve the South Korean insurer either acquiring a controlling stake or the entire equity of ING's Malaysian insurance business. (Source: The Star)
TH Plantations to double its land bank via a RM535.64mil deal
TH Plantations (THP) Bhd is looking to double its plantation land bank via a RM535.64mil deal with its major shareholder Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH). THP told Bursa Malaysia that it was buying TH Ladang (Sabah & Sarawak) Sdn Bhd for RM518mil and a 70% stake in TH Bakti Sdn Bhd for RM17.64mil, from LTH. The acquisition will be satisfied via the issuance of 209.23 million new THP shares at an issue price of RM2.56 per share. (Source: The Star)

MAS-AirAsia deal still on MyCC radar
The share swap entered into by national carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and AirAsia Bhd may be off, but the short-lived marriage is still being investigated by the Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC). MAS and AirAsia had announced a share swap and an agreement to collaborate in August 2011. While the share swap was called off on May 2 2012, both airlines had then said that they would nevertheless pursue collaborative agreements. (Source: Business Times)
