KUALA LUMPUR (May 10): The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar today on lack of demand for the local currency amid strengthening of the greenback, lifted by positive US job data, dealers said.
At 5 pm, the local unit was quoted at 2.9900/9930 to a greenback against yesterday's close at 2.9720/9750.
The dealer said investors mostly stayed on the sidelines ahead of the weekend break amid lack of fresh catalyst.
Meanwhile, the ringgit was traded higher against other major currencies.
The local currency rose against the Singapore dollar to 2.4146/4172 from 2.4192/4225 on Thursday and gained against the yen to 2.9478/9523 from 3.0099/0145 yesterday.
The local unit appreciated against the British pound to 4.6061/6116 from 4.6290/6348 yesterday and was higher against the euro at 3.8864/8906 from 3.9082/9124 Thursday. -- BERNAMA
