KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 25): Water supply rationing for Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang will start on Feb 27 and continue until March 31.

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas), Technical Development Executive Director V. Subramaniam said the plan was being implemented as the water treatment plants at 11th Mile Cheras and Bukit Tampoi were still closed due to ammonia pollution at Sungai Langat since Jan 28.

"The plan was approved by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) yesterday. It will involve more than 60,000 consumers in 71 affected areas," he said at a specially arranged news conference at Syabas headquarters, here, today.

He said, water would also be channelled from the Semenyih, Sungai Labu and Langat plants to meet consumer needs.

Syabas also denied allegation by Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim that the company did not prepare a water distribution plan and water supply rationing schedule.

"The claim is not right as the plan was tabled at the Selangor State Economic Action Council meeting on Feb 18.

"Following that, the Selangor government forwarded the proposed plan to SPAN on Feb 21 before it was approved yesterday," he said.

Khalid had earlier blamed Syabas for the water supply shortage faced by the people since last week and said that a distribution plan should have been implemented earlier to get consumers prepared.
