KUALA LUMPUR (Apr 17): The water rationing plan was reported to be affected in several areas in Jalan Serendah, Jalan Besar Serendah (Rawang), Jalan Universiti (Petaling Jaya) and Jalan Subang (Sungai Buluh) after a pipe burst, since yesterday.

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) corporate communications and public affairs department assistant general manager Priscilla Alfred said the incident resulted in a delay in the supply of water to areas which should have received water supply.

"Water supply will be channelled as soon as work to repair the burst pipe is completed and the channelling period will be made longer than scheduled," she said in a statement here, today.

At the same time, Priscilla said also there was also a delay with the channelling of water in several rationing areas including Prima Village and Rawang Perdana in the Hulu Selangor Region due to equipment theft at the pumphouse, since yesterday.

Nevertheless, she said the missing equipment had been replaced by Syabas and water supply had been rechannelled to the areas in question.

Meawnhile, she said, Syabas also reminded Joint Management Bodies for highrise residential buildings to maintain the levels of their water storage tanks at a stable level before releassing water to residents.

She said this was to assist the residents to receive water as scheduled.

Priscilla also explained on allegations that factory operators were forced to pay the cost of buying water, which were handled by third parties who provided lorry tankers, at exorbitant charges.

She clarified that the costs encompassed the cost imposed by Syabas, transportation costs and the profit margin of the third party involved.

"Syabas imposes RM100 for every lorry trip as administrative cost and test of water quality. Meanwhile, the cost of buying water is RM2.07 for every cubic metre, namely, the rate for industrial users," she said.

She also announced that the Wangsa Maju pump house under Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd was operational again after being shut down following the turbidity of water at Sungai Gombak had exceeded the level permitted by the Health Department.
