KUALA LUMPUR (Apr 30): Water rationing in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will end tomorrow (May 1), Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said.

Abdul Khalid said in a statement today the decision was made during the Selangor water-rationing meeting last Monday. The meeting was attended by Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara, Lembaga Urus Air Selangor, Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran (JPS), Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd, and water-concession owners.

“The state government has informed Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (SYABAS) of the decision, and has ordered SYABAS to ensure consumers are supplied with water as usual,” said Abdul Khalid.

He also recommended to Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein to carry out cloud-seeding activities using Thailand’s “ejectable flare rack” method.

Abdul Khalid said : “At the same time, the state government will intensify its effort to increase water supply for the impending drought which is expected to start late May until September.”

He said JPS had provided 10 pumps which would be used to transfer excess water from the river into the reservoir, where water will be pumped back to the river during the drought season.

“The state government has allocated RM10 million for the purchase of pumps and construction of infrastructure for the pump-related work,” said Abdul Khalid.
