KUALA LUMPUR (March 19): The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) futures contracts on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives closed marginally higher today, on positive external sentiment, a dealer said.

Phillip Futures Sdn Bhd dealer, Desmun Chan Coin Mun, said investors took cue from Russian President Vladimir Putin's words, that Moscow was not looking to divide Ukraine, in the ongoing crisis over Crimea.

Chan told Bernama that the investors were at present, also reluctant to increase risks, ahead of the US Federal Open Market Committee meeting's outcome and economic projections, later tonight.

"We expect that policies from the Fed will remain intact, with the continuation of a reduction in the US$10 billion quantitative easing," he said.

At close, March 2014 added one point to 1,815.5, April 2014 earned 0.5 of a point to 1,813.5, while September 2014 slipped 0.5 of a point to 1,806.

June 2014 was flat at 1,808.

Turnover fell to 3,993 lots, from the 5,054 lots yesterday, while open interest narrowed to 35,598 contracts, from 36,532 contracts on Tuesday.

The underlying FBM KLCI closed 3.26 points lower, at 1,817.44.
