KUALA LUMPUR (April 07): The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI Futures (FKLI) contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives closed higher today, amid better market sentiment.

Spot month April 2014 and September 2014 rose 3.5 points each to 1,860 and 1,848 respectively, while May 2014 improved 2.5 points to 1,853 and June 2014 advanced 4.0 points to 1,850.5.

Turnover increased to 5,736 lots, from 4,059 lots last Friday, while open interest went up to 35,870 contracts, from 34,866 contracts previously.

The underlying FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI finished 6.29 points higher at 1,862.9, its highest so far this year.

Phillip Futures Sdn Bhd dealer, Thomas Yew Jia-Jong, said the FKLI was resilient, despite the losses on regional markets.

The futures market also ignored the weak spillover in the US markets, he told Bernama.

"The index traded within a tight range, supported by buying support and weighed on by regional weakness.

"Despite that, the FKLI managed to gain 6.29 points, on last minute buying by local funds, in stocks like Tenaga, pushing the index over 1,860," Yew said.
