Technicals
Low breadth rebound rise

The FBM KLCI gained 2.52 points to close at 1,635.09 yesterday. Its resistance levels of 1,635 and 1,647 may cap market gains, whilst obvious support areas are located at 1,620 and 1,632.

The Trading Idea is a TAKE PROFIT call on GENM with downside target prices of MYR3.04 and MYR3.09.

U.S: Sales of new homes decrease from two-year high. Purchases fell 8.4% to a 350,000 annual rate, the weakest since January. The decline was led by a record plunge in the Northeast, where the number of properties available last month was the fewest for any June. (Source: Bloomberg)

Germany: Business confidence fell more than economists forecast in July to the lowest in more than two years as the worsening sovereign debt crisis damped the outlook for economic growth and company earnings. The Ifo institute in Munich said its business climate index, based on a survey of 7,000 executives, dropped to 103.3 from 105.2 in June. U.K: Economy unexpectedly shrank the most since 2009 in the second quarter as record rainfall and an extra public holiday hurt output, increasing pressure on Prime Minister David Cameron to abandon the government's biggest budget squeeze since World War II. GDP fell 0.7% QoQ from the first quarter, when it dropped 0.3% QoQ, the Office for National Statistics said. Construction plunged 5.2% QoQ, production fell 1.3% QoQ and services declined 0.1% QOQ. Japan: Posted an unexpected trade surplus in June as lower oil prices contributed to the first drop in imports since December 2009. Imports fell 2.2% YoY, resulting in a trade surplus of JPY 61.7b (USD 789m), the Finance Ministry said. Exports dropped 2.3% YoY. (Source: Bloomberg)

S. Korea: Consumer confidence dropped to the lowest level in five months as officials cautioned that a protracted European debt crisis is hurting the growth outlook for Asia's fourth-largest economy. The sentiment index was at 100 in July, down from 101 in June, the Bank of Korea said in an emailed statement. A reading of 100 indicates there are an equal number of optimists and pessimists. Indonesia: Foreign and domestic investment rose last quarter on an expansion of the country's mining, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Investment climbed 24% YoY to IDR 76.9t (USD 8.1b) in the three months ended June 30, M. Chatib Basri, Chairman of the Investment Coordinating Board, said. Thailand: Exports unexpectedly fell in June as weakening global demand offset easing supply constraints after last year's floods. Overseas sales slipped 2.5% YoY to USD 20.13b, the Ministry of Commerce said. That compares with a 7.68% YoY rise reported for May. (Source: Bloomberg)

Australia: Core consumer prices accelerated last quarter close to the pace economists forecast, giving the central bank scope to extend a pause in interest-rate cuts next month. The so-called trimmed mean gauge of core prices rose 0.5% QoQ from the previous quarter, the Bureau of Statistics said.
