Integrax: It is said to be close to sealing a 25 year port utilization agreement with TNG for the handling of coal for the latter’s coal fired Janamanjung power plant in Manjung, Perak. This new agreement would be a substantial boost for Integrax as it would increase for its coal throughput as its deep water terminal , Lekir Bulk Terminal by 50% to nine million tones per year. TNB owns 22% stake in Integarx.
The Lumut-Manjung corridor is expected to benefit from TNB’s 1000MW Manjung 4 Power Plant project and Vale’s iron and steel investment in Teluk Rubiah. Integrax is currently (July 2012) in discussions with these parties to determine Integrax’s level of participation in these projects.
It was previously reported that Integrax is still keen to pursue a second attempt to tie up with Vale after the lapse of its conditional contract to provide transshipment services to the latter for 10 years. The Perak government has since given Vale the green light to construct its own jetty to serve the iron ore project.
Maxis: Maxis Communications Bhd, the controlling shareholder of Maxis Bhd raised some rm2.4 billion via placement exercise of 375 million shares or 5% of Maxis total issued and paid up capital. The shares were offered between rm6.21 and rm6.34 each. MCB controls 5.25 billion shares or a 70% stake in Maxis, while EPF holds a 4.9% stake.
The reason for MCB’s fundraising plans is to finance the expansion of its mobile business in India. T Ananda is the ultimate major shareholder of MCB, has been selling some of its assets in recent months prior to July 2012.
Parkson: Parkson Retail Asia Ltd, the Singapore listed department store unit of Parkson Holdings Bhd is making a move into Sri Lanka as it expands its foothold in Asean and the South Asia region. PRA had acquired a 41.82% stake in Sri Lanka’s fashion retailer Odel Plc for S$13.6 million.
BRDB: Its warrants, amounting to 238.19 million, that was issued five years ago, due to expire on Sept 26, 2012, leaving investors with another two months to execise the warrants. BRDB has been in the news since Sept 2011 when it announced plans of the major shareholder, Ambang Sehati Sdn Bhd, offering to acquire four of its prime assets. However, following criticism of the offer price and transparency issues that may arise from the related party transaction, the board in March 2012 decided to undertake a tender exercise in which Ambang Sehati would also participate, to dispose the assets. So far the board has yet to undertake the competitive tender.
