KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 21): Malaysian rubber prices closed mostly lower today due to the weakening of the ringgit against the US dollar, dealers said.
However, the rubber prices in the local market opened slightly higher today compared with last Friday's closing prices, said a dealer.
The lower prices were also in tandem with key rubber futures on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange, which fell to their lowest in nearly a week Monday due to the strengthening of the yen against the US dollar.
At noon, the Malaysian Rubber Board's official physical price for tyre-grade SMR 20 fell two sen to close at 740.5 sen per kg, while latex-in-bulk declined half-a-sen to 534 sen per kg.
The unofficial closing price for tyre-grade SMR 20 gained 3.5 sen to 743.5 sen per kg, while latex-in-bulk shed half-a-sen to 534 sen per kg.
