They said the fall in the local rubber market was also in tandem with the decline on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange which eased following the strengthening yen, which reduced the appeal of yen-denominated futures, and weaker oil prices.
"The rising yen and the falling oil prices encouraged investors to sell contracts to stop losses," said a dealer.
At noon, the Malaysian Rubber Board's official physical price for tyre-grade SMR 20 decreased 3.5 sen to 731 sen a kg and latex-in-bulk slipped 1.5 sen to 515 sen a kg.
The unofficial closing price for tyre-grade SMR 20 fell 3.5 sen to 731 sen a kg while latex-in-bulk dipped two sen to 514.5 sen a kg.
