KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 7): The Malaysian rubber market closed lower today in quiet trading for the sixth day due to the further strengthening of the ringgit, a dealer said.
He said the trend was in tandem with the Tokyo Commodity Exchange due to the the rise in the yen against the US dollar.
Meanwhile, the International Rubber Conference Organisation, in its weekly report, said that rubber prices were likely to be volatile this week due to weak investor confidence and poor market sentiment.
At noon, the Malaysian Rubber Board's official physical price for tyre-grade SMR 20 fell 8.5 sen to 714.5 sen a kg and latex-in-bulk eased seven sen to 497 sen a kg.
The unofficial closing price for tyre-grade SMR 20 fell 11.5 sen to 707 sen a kg while latex-in-bulk also shed 7.5 sen to 492.5 sen a kg.
