KUALA LUMPUR (Apr 10): Malaysia’s sales value for the manufacturing sector in February 2014 rose 16.1% to RM53.5 billion, as compared to RM46.1 billion reported a year ago, according to the Department of Statistics.

Month-on-month (m-o-m), the value decreased by 3.9%.

The five industries that recorded the highest year-on-year increase in February were semiconductors (84.3%), consumer electronics (59.6%), electrical capacitors (39.1%), plastics (27.4%) and passenger cars (20.8%), said the department.

Productivity or average sales value per employee in February 2014 had decreased by 3.1% m-o-m to register RM52,415.

The number of employees recorded an increase of 0.4% year-on-year (y-o-y) or 4,556 persons as compared to 1,015,918 persons in February 2013.
