| Monday, 12 May 2014 12:29 KUALA LUMPUR (May 12): Sales value of Malaysia’s manufacturing sector in March 2014 rose 10.1% to RM56.5 billion, compared with RM 51.3 billion a year ago, according to the Department of Statistics. On a month-on-month (m-o-m) basis, sales value rose by 5.7% (RM3 billion) in March from February 2014. Sales value for the 1st quarter ended March 2014 rose 12.4% to RM165.6 billion, compared with RM147.3 billion a year ago. The five industries that recorded the highest year-on-year increase in March were electrical capacitors and resistors (61.7%), semiconductor devices (52.8%), consumer electronics (47.1%), communication equipment (35%) and petroleum products (1.7%). Productivity or average sales value per employee in March 2014 rose by 5.3% m-o-m to RM55,130. Productivity for 1Q2014 increased by 12.5% to RM161.6 million from RM143.6 million a year ago. The number of employees recorded a decrease of 0.1% year-on-year or 589 persons to 1,025,715 persons in March 2014. |
