Volvo Construction Equipment is looking at bigger operations in Sabah
and Sarawak, in view of ample opportunities available in the region.

Frederic
Ruesche, Business Director at Volvo Construction Equipment Malaysia,
said there are a lot of opportunities in the two states with many
ongoing projects there.

"We have taken part in Malaysia's mega
projects such as Bakun dam, which was supported by a lot of Volvo's
equipment," Ruesche said in a media briefing after the launch of three
new products today.

"In Peninsular Malaysia, we are one of the leaders in the quarry and mining sector," he said.

Globally,
Volvo Construction Equipment products are used in a number of different
applications, including general construction, road building and
maintanence, demolition, waste processing, material handling and
extraction.

Ruesche said while the developed markets in Europe
and North America are softening, and China experiencing a slowdown in
growth, the markets in Southeast Asia are booming.

"Sales in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Phillipines are strong," he said.

The
prospects will continue to be bright for the Southeast Asian market for
the rest of this year, he said, with expectation of positive sales
growth.

Volvo Construction Equipment registered record sales last year and for this first quarter this year.

Global
sales in 2011 amounted to US$10 billion with 84,000 units sold, while
for the first quarter 2012, it achieved record sales of US$2.7 billion.

Asia, where it has manufacturing facilities in Korea, India and China, accounted for almost half of global sales.

Volvo
Construction Equipment Malaysia today launched the 38-tonne and
48-tonne crawler excavators, which enabled up to 14 per cent lower fuel
consumption and are designed for quarry, mining and construction sites.
It also launched the 11-tonne soil compactor.

The new telematics
system called Care Track was also launched today which is able to
increase machine uptime and productivity and provides data from remote
location. -– Bernama
